El Putxet Cheese Factory

Our story

From Masia El Putxet to Montserrat, a tradition that can be visited.

At the foot of the Montserrat mountain, in the historic farmhouse El Putxet , our family has been making mató and cheeses for five generations.

Yaya Maria, 2nd generation.

"We're not talking about a rediscovered recipe, but a real story, lived and passed down within the family."

Grandma Maria, 2nd generation.

Yaya Reis, 3rd generation.

Dolors, 4th generation.

Our flagship product

In the old days, mató was made at Masia El Putxet. My great-grandmother made it with the day's milk and loaded it onto a mule to take it up to Montserrat every morning.

The journey was long and demanding: about four hours uphill and three downhill, but the effort was worth it to bring to the mountain what would eventually become known as the Montserrat mató.

Today we continue to make our products with the same respect for tradition, but adapted to modern times. Now the journey to Montserrat is by car and takes less than 20 minutes, although the philosophy remains the same:

Honest product, careful preparation and authentic flavor.

At the heart of every product is a unique story, driven by our passion for quality and innovation.
